Today was a great day to learn something new. The kids completed a series of Fitness testing. The testes that they had to complete were a 15 and 30 yard dash, 3 cone drill, and we measured how far they could jump. It was exciting to see that the kids wanted to make it competition as to who had the fasted time. Each kid was pumped at the fact that they had two opportunities to complete each test and we wrote down their best score.
Later in the afternoon we broke up into groups according to the sport the kids wanted to play. They had the option of playing futsal or hockey. Not being familiar with the game of futsal I took the kids that wanted to play hockey and we went into the indoor gym to play hockey. It was quit the experience to see them play. It was definitely a game that we had to be careful of with the kids wanting to slap shot the puck (tennis ball). The kids acted as if the guys in the NHL on taking their shots on goal, following through on their slap shots. I don’t believe they were aware of their always aware of their surroundings. I did let the kids know if they did not seem to be aware, after talking to them they seemed a little more aware.
Every now and then I would jump in on either team and help them out if one team was out scoring the other team. Needless to say it was a great day of fitness testing and playing a little hockey.
